November 24th, 2012 at 12:33 pm

A 32 year old Illinois woman is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of a traffic accident, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.  She is accused of hit-and-run with a house.

On October 27, 2012, at approximately 10:40p.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a Madison, WI resident that a white car had hit their home and then had driven away. The house was located at 1100 block of Williamson Street. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the damage to the house from where it had been hit by the vehicle. There were several witnesses at the scene who told the deputies that the driver had fled the scene by heading towards Staunton.

Staunton police were notified and located a vehicle identified as a white Nissan Maxima that had damage consistent with being in a recent accident. It was locates on Old Route 66 at Reservoir Road. A Madison deputy was then dispatched to the location of the vehicle.

According KSDK, Bess Kellebrew, of Livingston IL, was identified by the deputy as the driver of the vehicle. According to police reports, Kellebrew showed signs of being intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test. Her face also had injuries consistent with being in an accident. Kellebrew was taken to the Madison County Jail and held on $100 bond.

There could be several extenuating circumstances in this case to make it appear that the alleged defendant was responsible for this accident. But there may also be evidence to suggest she wasn’t.
